Frequently Asked Questions

How many days will you be in China before you have Lainie ?
We will be united with Lainie on Monday, May 14. It will still be Sunday here. We will probably be with her by Monday afternoon and since China is 12 hours ahead, it is safe to say that by the time you wake up here on Monday, she will be with us. We hope to have pictures here by mid-morning Monday (your time).

Who is going to China with you ?
Bobby's mother will be traveling with us. We are very excited that Lainie's grandmother will be with us on the day that Lainie is officially part of our family. Lainie will be the 13th grandchild for Bobby's parents. Who says 13 isn't a lucky number ???

Can we come to the airport to greet you when you arrive home ?
Yes! Please do. Just be mindful that Lainie will once again be in a strange place with strange people so she may not be as happy to see you are you are to see her. Our flight is scheduled to arrive in Charlotte at 6:30pm on the 24th.

Will Lainie have surgery to correct her VSD ?
We don't know yet. We were told by our pediatric cardiologist that 1 of 4 children with VSD need them surgically repaired. She has an appointment with him on June 4, so we will know more after that. We are hoping and praying that the VSD will have closed on its own and surgery will not be necessary.

How are you expecting Lainie to react to having a family ?
We have to remember that Lainie does not understand now that she doesn't have a family. She has no concept of what a mom and dad are, or what they are supposed to do. On the day she is brought to us, all she will realize is that she has been taken away from everything that is familiar to her and handed over to two strangers. We know that she will experience grief from this loss. What we've read about the attachment/bonding process has prepared us to a degree. Please pray for all of us as we work through this fragile process in the days, weeks and months ahead.

Frequently people tell us what a wonderful thing we are doing. Let me take this opportunity to say again, that we are doing nothing. God is doing a wonderful thing through us. Never in my wildest dreams did I have adoption as part of my plan for my life. God has called us to this and used this experience to grow our faith in Him. It has been a remarkable journey. I would encourage you ... if God is calling you to something that does not fit into your plan for your life, do not run from it, you will miss an opportunity to grow your faith and be so, so blessed.

WOW! I think I might be "close" to being as excited as you both are! This blog has been great!
Go to China, bring Lainie home..and I promise I will take care of your family here. OK.. we have said you are doing a Great Thing...even today, I told your kids that it was a Great thing that the entire family is doing...but I know your family is just an instrument that God has used and thank you for your willingness to be used. Lainie is loved so much already!

What a testimony for Christ you are providing. I am honored to know you both and have the pleasure of seeing my children grow up with your wonderful spirit filled children. Bobby and Jennifer you have coached and taught my children for years and provided them with role models of a Christian life. Thank you for who you each are. I love you both!!
